Have you heard of Camønoen?

It is Denmark's new answer to the Camino, the legendary pilgrimage route in Northern Spain, which around a quarter of a million people try their hand at every year.

On Møn, they have been inspired by the popular Spanish Camino's great popularity and iconic status: “Camønoen” is a combination of “Caminoen” and “Møn”, the small island off the coast of South Zealand, which is otherwise best known for Møns Klint.

The Camønoen is approx. 170 km long and divided into stages. Between the stages you will find the Camøno-Pauserne, which are specially designed benches where you can also have your hiking map clipped.

What characterizes the hiking route, Camønoen?

The people behind the hiking route wanted to make something very special out of the nature on Møn and the stories associated with the area. On Camønoen you literally hike through Denmark's history, primeval forest, ancient times, legends, myths and gastronomy. It is also called “the friendliest hiking route in the kingdom” because the locals and small businesses on the route support the project and are happy to guide you in the right direction and give you good tips for the trip. The hiking route is 175 km long in total and also extends to the surrounding islands of Nyord and Bogø.

"With professional management and great volunteer effort, you have developed an attraction that makes a virtue of involving the local community and which has created collaborations and new opportunities, which in turn benefits the revenue for many," said Vordingborg's mayor Knud Larsen, among other things, when he presented the award.

It is unusually dark on the small floating spot in the Baltic Sea that makes up Møn and Nyord. The International Dark Sky Association (IDA) has now confirmed this with a certificate of the highest quality.

IDA works to protect the night sky from light pollution and preserve the view of the stars. Among other things, the organization rewards places that consciously work to minimize light pollution. We do this on Møn and Nyord
